- Part 1: The siege of Hiltinar
- The golem horde finally arrives and begins besieging the citadel.
- The fighting is going in the Ekolosians’ favor, though things quickly turn sour as it is revealed that the enemy has discovered the secret exit through the mountains. Ned and several warriors go to defend the entrance.
- The golems kill many warriors, but Ned holds his ground, killing many.
- Andarian the Black appears and fights Ned, mortally wounding him.
- Before Andarian can finish Ned, a sound of horns sounds from outside the citadel, and Andarian leaves.
- Jonathan appears with the host of mercenaries and they all charge the golems, decimating the horde and driving the automatons to flight.
- Jonathan and a small group of riders charge for the secret entrance, but meet Andarian the Black.
- Several mercenaries are killed by Andarian, and Jonathan is unhorsed. the two fight and Jonathan kills Andarian.
- Entering the city, Jonathan finds Ned nearly dead. The two talk and Ned tells Jonathan of Jayana’s love. He dies admitting that he now believes in the gods the priest spoke of in Dhurndhlar.
- Jonathan flies into a fit of rage and fights savagely.
- The citadel is made safe and the golem horde is defeated. Jonathan finds Jayana, who is overjoyed to see the man still alive.
- Part 2: Retaking Tylindale
- The defenders strategize how best to counter-attack, and Jayana says that they need to retake the capitol of Tylindale. Then they can parlay for military support from Tyka.
- A siege plan is set using old maps of the city.
- They find many mountain tunnels which run from the citadel to the city. the plan is thus made to send the larger force to the front of the city as a rouse while a small task force enters through the tunnels and simultaneously takes out the commander and opens the gate.
- The siege goes as planned, with the golems being directed to the walls. the secret entrance is left unguarded.
- Jonathan and several mercenaries, as well as many Ekolosian soldiers, emerge from the tunnels. Half go to the keep while the other half go to the gate. Jonathan goes to the keep.
- The fighting in the keep is quick, with few golems inside and the commander himself being a non-combatant. with the commander dead, the golems lose their direction and coordination.
- From the keep, Jonathan can see the gatehouse burning and the soldiers rush in. the city is theirs without much loss.
- Part 3: Punishing Voray
- The victory at Tyrindale gives Ekolos leverage to parlay with Tyka. Jayana, now enthroned as the queen of Ekolos, gives the relic back to Jonathan.
- Jayana sends an envoy to the king of Tyka, the man she was once betrothed to. He agrees to meet.
- Hurlinaris Jorva, the king of Tyka, admits his desire to help but regrets that he can’t. he is married to the princess of Voray. The full breadth of Viltinor’s schemes are revealed.
- King Hurlinaris agrees to pass the envoy on to the emperor of Noatas, to the south of Voray.
- The Noatasian emperor agrees to aid in the war against Voray on the conditions that Noatas keeps all conquered lands and Ekolos does not advance beyond the Voratian capitol. Jayana agrees.
- The Ekolosians spend several months gathering the scattered armies and then march for the border with Voray.
- The army meets little resistance as most of the golem forces have marched south to stem the advance of the Noatasians. the Ekolosian army comes unhindered to the great city of Voros, the capitol of Voray.
- The force sets up a siege camp around the city and prepares to assault the walls, cutting down trees from a nearby wood to make siege ramps to cross the large moat.
- After taking the walls, the army marches through to the city hall. there, they find Viltinor guarded by several elite golems. Jonathan and several of the mercenary company fight and kill the golems, leaving Viltinor defenseless. He surrenders.
- The city is captured and held for the remaining months of the war. As promised by Jayana, they do not advance further.
- Epilogue
- Edgarton founded
- For his service to Ekolos, Jonathan is gifted Voros.
- The mercenaries join Jonathan as his military and personal guard.
- Jonathan renames the city Edgarton in honor of his fallen friend.
- The wall is restored, and an extra palisade is made in front of the moat.
